![]() ![]() Luttig as Sacagawea, she died 20 December, 1812 and was buried in am unmarked grave there in what's now South Dakota. The scholars I read agree: though not named by Ft. While there is much more to the People and their story than that regarding the young Lemhi Shoshone from what's now northern Idaho who accompanied Lewis and Clark from Manuel's Fort to the Pacific and back but an alternative take on her end may be what surprises visitors here most. It is a small but very thought provoking display: most tourists on the way to Yellowstone never find their way here. In this modest museum, their history is outlined so very tastefully. Chief Washakie of the Newe People kept peace with the newcomers from the east and was granted a large though formerly larger tract of land to share with the Arapaho. ![]()
